CONSTRUCTION MANAGER
Durwest Construction Management is in search of a Construction Manager who will form part of our Operations team. The Construction Manager will be responsible for overall supervision and coordination of project construction, scheduling, and budgets. He/She will be directly responsible for managing a project coordinator and developing and mentoring their growth within the organization. The Construction Manager reports directly to the VP, Operations and will have the ability to maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
Responsibilities:
- Provide overall construction management from pre-construction to completion including design coordination, budget, and schedule in conjunction with the project team
- Achieve project schedule commitments within the financial targets
- Prepare, review, and submit timely and accurate billings for owners and ensure timely payment of subcontractor billings
- Ensure site safety and environmental standards are met or exceeded
- Regularly meet with Owners, Consultants, Architects and other project stakeholders in a professional manner and communicate effectively both the concerns and best interests of the client
- Monitor, interpret and forecast a project’s cost report ensuring they are in line with estimates
- Ensure that projects are built according to approved plans, specifications, shop drawings and applicable building codes and ensure that quality standards are met
- Submit project reports to operations and communicate with management about project progress and areas of risk
- Provide clear direction to team members and delegate workload to capitalize on individual and group strengths while ensuring balanced exposure to work experience and development opportunities
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience managing construction projects in ICI sector or multi-family residential sector
- Degree/Diploma in Engineering, Project/Construction Management or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience
- Sound understanding of construction documents, drawings, specifications and current construction practices and methodology
- Strong understanding of the construction management delivery model
- Effective communication skills including verbal, written and people management
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and excellent attention to detail
- Ability to effectively manage time, responsibilities, and priorities
- Ability to think critically, solve problems and work with others to obtain the team orientated goals and results for the project(s).
- Proven leadership abilities
- Self-starter and entrepreneurial mindset
- Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing conditions
- Proficient in MS Project, MS Office suite and strong overall IT skills
- Previous experience working with Procore is considered an asset
PROJECT COORDINATOR
Durwest Construction Management is in search of a Project Coordinator who will form an integral part of our team. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for organizing and maintaining project and contract administration under the direction of the Construction Manager & VP, Operations. The ideal candidate will have previous knowledge and understanding of the construction industry, field construction experience and requires an in depth understanding and ability to interpret construction documents.
Responsibilities:
- Report to the Construction Manager
- Communicate and coordinate with stakeholders and trades as required to ensure ongoing operations are maintained
- Maintain project administration correspondence, and ensure compliance with documentation requirements
- Communicate and coordinate with trade contractors to ensure performance and scheduling
- Effectively participate on a project team of Architects, Consultants and Trade Contractors
- Think critically, solve problems and work with others to obtain the team orientated goals and results for the project(s)
- Effectively and accurately communicate relevant project information to the project team daily
- Review field inspection reports from Consultants throughout the lifecycle of the project and address action items as required
- Review, distribute and track shop drawings
- Review trade contractor and supplier quotations to ensure accuracy on pricing
- Track and manage RFI’s, Site Instructions and Change orders as they apply to the construction drawings
- Attend site meetings and prepare/issue meeting minutes
- Assist in preparation of short-term schedules, estimating & drawing review
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years’ experience in project coordination in the construction industry
- Post-Secondary training in Construction Management or a related field, an asset
- Familiarity with construction documents, drawings, specifications and current construction practices and methodology
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with aptitude in building relationships and credibility with project stakeholders at all levels
- Self-motivated, strong work ethic, positive attitude, and excellent attention to detail
- Ability to analyze data and prepare reports
- Comfortable ‘thinking outside the box’ and making suggestions for efficiencies and optimizing operations
- Ability to effectively manage time, responsibilities and priorities, often managing multiple demands simultaneously
- Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-based environment
- Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing conditions
- Proficient in MS Project, MS Office suite and strong overall IT skills
- Previous experience working with Procore is considered an asset
CONSTRUCTION SAFETY OFFICER
Durwest is in search of a Certified Construction Safety Officer (CSO) to join our Health and Safety Team. The CSO will be responsible for the onsite Health and Safety of his/her assigned project, under the direction of the Health and Safety Manager & Site Superintendent. He/She will represent Durwest’s safety culture and manage all aspects of Durwest’s onsite safety policies, site specific procedures and ensure all legislative and contractual safety requirements are being met.
Responsibilities:
- Advise and liaise with construction staff to verify that safe systems for work are in operation, and that all legislative safety requirements are being observed and adhered to
- Provide first aid services to injured workers and maintain first aid locations
- Inspecting site conditions to determine if hazards are present
- Establish procedures and policies to overcome hazardous situations on a daily, weekly, and informal basis
- Deliver site orientations to contractors and employees and all other site visitors
- Ensure corrective and preventive actions are established and implemented
- Review the overall safety performance of contractors and identify improvement opportunities
- Conduct incident investigations to identify causes and implement corrective action to prevent reoccurrence
- Develop and implement site specific procedures focused on continuous improvement
- Ensure that an emergency response plan is developed, implemented, maintained and reviewed
- Ensure the impacts and risks related to health, safety and environment for projects are anticipated and controlled
- Participate in Joint Occupational health and Safety Committee meetings and assist with follow-up and corrective actions as required
- Conduct daily safety meetings with site supervision and contractors
- Ensure daily hazard assessments are done and collected for all trades and employees
- Monitor and maintain Communicable disease prevention Protocols
Qualifications:
- Completion of Construction Safety Officer Certificate
- OFA level 2 or 3
- Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience within the Construction industry
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Thorough understanding of current WorksafeBC Regulations, Codes of Practice, Bulletins and other safe work practice requirements and recommendations
- Ability to develop site specific safe work practices
- Ability to build credibility and strong partnerships at all levels
- Very strong sense of urgency and a proven record of following through to meet deadlines and commitments
- Energetic, self-motivated, creative and especially positive outlook
- Meticulous document control
- Proven ability to maintain confidences and ensure confidentiality of information and records
- Complete proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and other common applications
- Confined Space Training an asset
