The Capital Region Emergency Service Telecommunications (CREST) organization have constructed a new public safety building in Langford, a critical infrastructure project aimed at enhancing emergency communications throughout the Capital Region. The one-acre site features a 14,000-square-foot, one-storey building designed to withstand a major earthquake. This resilient facility consolidates all CREST operations under one roof, optimizing efficiency and ensuring uninterrupted service for more than 50 emergency response and public service agencies in the region.
Key Features and Innovations
- Seismic Resilience: The building has been engineered to remain operational during and after a major seismic event, ensuring the continuity of essential emergency communication services.
- Enhanced Communication Coverage: The project includes the installation of a communications mono-pole, strategically placed to enhance public safety communications in the Langford and Highlands areas. This improves coverage and reliability for CREST’s user agencies, complementing the existing network of 35 installations across urban and rural areas of the Capital Region.
- Operational Consolidation: By bringing all CREST operations into a single location, the building streamlines administrative, technical, and operational functions, improving service delivery to the agencies and communities that depend on its infrastructure.
The CREST Public Safety Building is more than just a structure; it is a vital asset for the Capital Region’s emergency response capabilities. Designed with resilience and sustainability at its core, the facility serves as a cornerstone of public safety for decades to come. By leveraging the innovative use of mass timber, CREST has invested in a solution that not only meets the practical demands of emergency communications but also aligns with broader goals of environmental responsibility and community well-being.
This state-of-the-art facility solidifies CREST’s role as a leader in public safety communications, ensuring that emergency services across the Capital Region have the robust, reliable infrastructure needed to protect and serve the community.
