Community Involvement
Durwest is proud to be deeply rooted in the communities we serve, creating meaningful impact through local partnerships, volunteerism, donations, and economic support.
Durwest employees contribute their expertise through leadership roles on boards and committees that shape the construction industry and advance equity and education. This includes serving on the VICA Board of Directors, supporting Women in Construction initiatives, and advocating for The Builders Code to promote respectful, inclusive workplaces. Our team also volunteers with local organizations such as HeroWork and Power to Be, collectively contributing over 200 volunteer hours annually to strengthen our community.
Durwest proudly supports local non-profits and community programs through regular financial contributions. This includes Broadmead Care (supporting seniors and veterans), KidSport Victoria (removing financial barriers to youth sports), and VICA’s Construct Your Future program (empowering youth and newcomers in the skilled trades). We also sponsor the Westshore Rugby Club annually, reinforcing our commitment to community-based sport and wellness.
Durwest is proud to work in partnership with Indigenous communities, including the Songhees Nation and Sc’ianew (Beecher Bay) First Nation, on projects located on First Nations lands. Our engagement strategies prioritize inclusion by hiring Nation members and encouraging participation from Indigenous-owned vendors. We focus on building long-term relationships, respecting cultural values, and supporting local economic development.
Durwest supports workforce development through apprentice sponsorship and flexible schedules for trades pursuing Red Seal certification. We maintain a mentorship-based culture that fosters long-term career growth, with several former apprentices now holding supervisory and project management positions.
We believe in building not only facilities, but also relationships and opportunities that strengthen the communities we serve—today and for the future.
